A historical satire by actors who did little research, from theedmontonian.com and EdmontonPolitics.com team.
We’ve got a mayor and council ready to create new LRT lines in Edmonton. We’re looking at some of the largest transit expansions in our history, and there are calls for more bicycle lanes. Clearly, we need to hear from a mayor that helped get us our LRT line and one that loves private automobiles.
In this forum:
Mayor Ivor Dent – The Commonwealth Games and our LRT system can be linked back to Dent
Mayor Matthew (Mat) “Warden” McCauley – Edmonton’s first mayor
Mayor William Short – One of the City of Edmonton’s first mayors, and one of the first people in Edmonton to ever own a car
After the jump you’ll find out what they think, and it should provide great debate since we’ve got one of the first car-owners and a mayor who helped bring us LRT.

As promised (threatened?) here’s a regular check on what’s going on and what’s being said about the Edmonton municipal and school board elections.
Looks like Ward 11 is going to be a race to watch. There’s no incumbent, since Dave Thiele isn’t running again. Actually, it’s the only ward where there’s not going to be a current councillor running.
I had really hoped to see more of them stick to their geographic homes and slug it out to give us a council with more fresh faces. But I digress…
Former Edmonton Sun columnist Kerry Diotte announced he’s going to run in Ward 11, and then so did Vishal Luthra. Chinwe Okelu also recently jumped into the race. Shane Bergdahl was already there, waiting for some competition.

After looking at the councillors, candidates, school board trustees and school boards, let’s kick around all of the issues that will dominate election(s) 2010. And issues worth talking about. And issues that might come up.
And stuff that is important but might not come up but you could still talk to candidates about when they come door knocking.

Big ones
You know what’s probably going to be an election issue, even though it’s not really part of candidate’s platforms? The downtown arena project. All that arena talk has been hot. There’s been zoning, there will be questions of money, who guarantees what cash, and how it fits with the city’s vision for downtown. Candidates will likely be asked where they stand on the development, and who pays. Oh, and there would be the question of what to do with that little building we call Rexall Place.
